SHOULD I GET INTO SHAPE BEFORE TRYING MARTIAL ARTS?
SO YOU DECIDED THAT YOU WANT TO BE A NINJA? I GOTTA TELL YOU, GREAT DECISION!
Look, starting martial arts is one of the smartest moves you can make, no matter where you’re at right now.
I know, when I was a kid the ONLY thing I wanted to be when I grew up was a Ninja! This was the late eighties and early nineties when Jean Claude Van Damme was a Hollywood mega-star, Ninja Turtles ruled Saturday mornings, and 3 Ninjas was on everyone’s Blockbuster rental list.
It didn’t matter what you looked like or how far you could run – it just mattered that you were a ninja, having a blast with your friends and being whoever you wanted to be in that moment.
Now in my 30s I still watch those awesome martial arts movies, except I don’t have to pretend anymore. I get to do real martial arts stuff every single day – IN REAL LIFE! This time it’s about living a healthy, active life, crushing stress, and feeling like a badass while doing it.
LET’S BE REALISTIC HERE.
You probably don’t have the same energy you did as a teenager, and you definitely don’t move the same. (Trust me, I feel it too.) But that doesn’t mean you can’t jump into martial arts and start building a stronger, leaner, happier version of yourself.
Here’s the truth: there are effective martial arts that embrace every body type – big, small, tall, wide, whatever. The mats don’t judge.
SHOULD I GET INTO SHAPE BEFORE TRYING MARTIAL ARTS?
If you’ve asked yourself this, it’s not a dumb question – I get it all the time. The answer is simple: NO.
The best martial arts academies (like ours) have true beginner classes where you learn the exact movements you need, build real fitness from zero, and level up safely. That’s where the magic happens.
FOR REAL – WANT PROOF? One of our students dropped 100 lbs in under a year just by showing up and training consistently. No crazy prep, no “get in shape first” nonsense – just started.
Some martial arts torch insane calories – we’ve tracked students burning over 1,400 calories in a single two-hour class. And yeah, that was a 37-year-old dad who walked in on day one out of breath after tying his shoes.
You don’t need to be in shape to start martial arts. You just need to start. Stay consistent, trust the process, and watch your body and confidence transform faster than you think.
Crazy BJJ is 100% dedicated to this kind of progress for every beginner who walks through the door at 2611 HWY 180 West, Mineral Wells, Texas 76067. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and our martial arts programs are built for ANY body type – come prove it to yourself. The mats are waiting.
